Day-By-Day Journey

Seven days, shaped with intent

A relaxed pace by design — one urban anchor in Nairobi, then five full days on the Mara plains. The kind of trip your guests describe in single sentences afterwards.

Day1
Arrival · Nairobi

Welcome to Kenya — arrive at Giraffe Manor

On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), you are met by your dedicated representative and transferred privately to Giraffe Manor in the Karen-Langata district — Nairobi's quiet residential green belt and home to the AFEW Giraffe Centre next door.

Settle into your Superior Rooms, freshen up, and prepare for one of travel's most photographed welcomes. Afternoon tea is served on the lawn, and as evening approaches, the resident herd of endangered Rothschild's giraffes drifts in to greet guests — heads craning over the breakfast windows and the manor's stone walls. Dinner this evening is in the Orchid House with house wines and the manor's signature warmth.

Day2
Breakfast With Giraffes · Fly to Mara

The famous breakfast — then into the wild

Wake to the sound of hooves on gravel. The giraffes return at dawn, and breakfast is served with their long necks reaching gently through the open dining-room windows for pellets — the most photographed moment in African travel. After a leisurely visit to the AFEW Giraffe Centre next door, you depart Giraffe Manor before 10:00am for a private transfer to Wilson Airport.

A scheduled charter flight (45 minutes) takes you across the Great Rift Valley to Olkiombo Airstrip in the heart of the Masai Mara ecosystem. On landing, a warm welcome from your safari guide and a transfer to your first Mara camp — beginning two nights of game drives and the unhurried pace that the Mara demands.

Day3
Mara · Full Day Game

Into the rhythm of the Mara plains

A full day in the Masai Mara ecosystem — twice-daily game drives in custom-built open-sided 4×4 vehicles with your accredited safari guide. Mornings begin before sunrise to find lions on their last hunt or finishing a kill; afternoons explore river crossings, marshlands, and the iconic Mara escarpment views.

Lunch is served bush-style on extended drives or at camp depending on the day's tracking. Late afternoon tea, evening campfire, dinner under canvas, and the soundtrack of hippos in the night.

Day4
Camp Transfer

Move deeper — your second Mara camp

After a leisurely breakfast and one final morning game drive from your first camp, transfer internally within the Mara ecosystem to your second camp for three nights. The transfer itself is a game drive — you'll arrive at lunchtime in time to settle, take in the new view, and rest before the afternoon's exploration.

Each camp brings a different angle on the same vast ecosystem — different guides, different terrain, different sundowner spots. Keep cameras and energy in reserve.

Internal Mara transfer Game drives both ways Full board
Day5
Mara · Photography Day

The plains belong to you

A full day to settle into the Mara's deeper light. Optional pre-dawn departure for sunrise photography — the moment when the eastern sky turns gold behind acacia silhouettes is the single most-quoted reason guests return. Afternoon is yours to extend the drive, take a walking safari (where conservancy rules permit), or rest in camp with afternoon tea.

For groups travelling between July and October, the Mara River crossing zone is reachable from your camp's vehicles — the photographic prize of the East African year.

Day6
Mara · Final Full Day

One more sunrise, and one more sunset

Your final full day in the Mara. By now your guides know what you've seen — and what you still want to see. Today is built around closing the gaps: the elusive leopard, the cheetah with cubs, the river crossing, the lion pride at rest. Lunch in the bush again, an unhurried afternoon, and a special sundowner location chosen by the camp team.

Tonight's dinner is the trip's celebration meal — tell your stories, raise a glass, and let the Mara settle into memory.

Day7
Departure

The long flight home — and the trip you'll keep

A final morning game drive (an option, not an obligation), a leisurely breakfast at camp, then airstrip transfer to Olkiombo for your scheduled charter flight back to Nairobi Wilson Airport. From here, our representative meets you for a private transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) in time for your onward international flight.

Asante sana — and welcome back, anytime.

Honest Answers

Questions about this journey

The questions our planners are asked most often about this exact package.

What's included in the rate?

Your per-person rate covers the full 6-night stay (1 night Giraffe Manor + 5 nights at your chosen Mara camps), round-trip flights between Nairobi Wilson and Olkiombo Airstrip, all Maasai Mara park fees and conservancy levies, all transfers (JKIA, Karen-Langata, airstrip), full board accommodation, twice-daily game drives in open-sided 4×4 vehicles, and the relevant beverage package per camp. International flights, Kenya eTA, gratuities, and premium beverages are separate.

How far in advance should I book?

Tier 1 (Salas + Soroi Mara) and Tier 2 (Salas + Angama Mara) require 5 to 13 months advance booking due to limited tent counts at all three camps. Tier 3 (Soroi Private Wing + Soroi Mara/Migration) requires 10 to 20 months ahead for peak-season availability across both properties. Book earlier when possible — high-season windows fill 12+ months ahead.

What are the high and low season dates?

High season runs 1 June to 31 October (the Great Migration in the Mara) and 15 December to 15 February (festive holiday peak). Low season is 16 February to 30 May and 1 November to 14 December — a 12% discount applies automatically across all three tiers in low-season windows. The discounted totals are pre-calculated on each tier card.

Are the Nairobi-Mara flights really included?

Yes — round-trip scheduled charter flights between Nairobi Wilson Airport and Olkiombo Airstrip are included in every quoted price across all three tiers. Flight time is approximately 45 minutes each way. Light-aircraft luggage limits apply — typically 15kg in soft bags per guest.

Are park fees included?

Yes. All Maasai Mara park entry fees, conservancy levies (where your camp sits inside a private conservancy), and applicable foundation contributions are included in your per-person rate. We pay these at source on your behalf — no additional fees are billed at the gate.

Why three different camps over six nights?

One Nairobi night plus two distinct Mara camps gives you three different perspectives on the ecosystem — different guides, different terrain, different positions in the Mara complex. The 2-night and 3-night structure protects pace: long enough to settle, short enough to preserve novelty. It's the rhythm we recommend most often for first-time Kenya luxury travellers.

Can rooms be configured for couples vs single travellers?

Yes. Rates above are per-person sharing (twin or double). Single-room configurations are available with single supplements that vary by camp — typically 30–50% above the sharing rate. For your group of 2 to 18, we'll work with you to optimise the room configuration and minimise the supplement burden.

What about visas and entry?

Most international travellers require the Kenya electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) — applied for online before travel at a cost of USD 34. Our team provides full advisory support on the eTA process, yellow-fever certification (required if arriving from an endemic country), and any onward connection requirements.

What if I want to extend the journey?

We regularly extend this 7-day route into 10–14 day journeys. Popular additions include: Amboseli (Kilimanjaro elephants, 2–3 nights), Lewa or Ol Pejeta in Laikipia (rhino conservation, 2–3 nights), Diani Beach or Lamu (coastal finish, 3–5 nights), or onward into Tanzania for the Serengeti and Ngorongoro. Speak to our planners for tailored options.
