The complete day-by-day plan

Your 9-day journey.

8 nights, with time to explore each destination. This is a detailed proposed programme; the final schedule follows your dates, confirmed transport and local conditions.

Day 1

Arusha

A gentle arrival in northern Tanzania

Arrive in northern Tanzania and transfer to Arusha Coffee Lodge.

After the airport welcome, continue to your accommodation in the Arusha area. The first afternoon is reserved for settling in, with time to unpack only what you need for the night and enjoy the gardens or a quiet drink after your flight.

Your safari briefing covers tomorrow’s departure, luggage arrangements and the rhythm of the first wildlife days. Tell the team about any dietary needs or mobility considerations before setting off. If your flight arrives late, the priority is a comfortable transfer and rest; sightseeing is not squeezed into the evening.

Day 2

Tarangire National Park

Into Tarangire’s elephant country

Elephants in Tarangire
Elephants in Tarangire

Leave Arusha by road for Tarangire National Park and Oliver’s Camp.

Continue by road into Tarangire, allowing the park journey to become your first game-viewing experience. Watch for the shift from settled farmland to protected habitat and the trees that give this landscape its character. Arrival time determines whether lunch comes before or after the first substantial drive.

Once at camp, settle in and discuss the next day with your guide. Rather than treating the afternoon as a race for sightings, use it to learn how the animals are using the surrounding woodland and water sources. Return before dinner for the camp’s safety briefing and an easy first evening.

Day 3

Tarangire National Park

A full day exploring Tarangire

Set out early to explore the park’s woodland, open areas and seasonal water. Elephant behaviour often rewards a longer stop, while birds and smaller animals provide plenty to watch between larger sightings. The route is chosen for current conditions, not a promise that every part of the park can be covered.

A picnic lunch can extend the outing, or you may return to camp during the hotter hours before another drive. A guided walk is possible only if available, suitable and specifically arranged with the right staff; age and safety restrictions apply. End your stay with time to enjoy camp before tomorrow’s move.

Day 4

Ngorongoro highlands

Climb into the highlands

The Highlands, Ngorongoro
The Highlands, Ngorongoro

Continue by road from Tarangire into the Ngorongoro highlands and on to the lodge.

Travel into the Ngorongoro highlands, where the scenery and temperature change from the lower safari country. Allow for park formalities and the slower roads before reaching your lodge. The afternoon is kept relatively light so that an early start tomorrow feels comfortable.

Take in the setting, prepare a warm layer and discuss the plan for the crater visit. Your guide will confirm breakfast and lunch arrangements as well as the departure time. Any walk or community visit needs its own arrangement; the arrival day does not automatically include an additional excursion.

Day 5

Ngorongoro highlands

A safari on the crater floor

Set off early and descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive. Explore the different habitats rather than concentrating solely on a species checklist, allowing time to observe grazers, birds and any predators encountered. Sightings, including rhino, remain a matter of conditions and luck.

Plan lunch with your guide and continue exploring within the time allowed by the park arrangements. Later, ascend to your highland accommodation for a quieter evening. The contrast between the crater floor and the cooler surroundings of the lodge is part of the day, so keep layers handy for the return.

Day 6

Northern Serengeti

Settle into the northern Serengeti

Transfer to the confirmed departure airstrip for your flight to Kogatende, then drive to Sayari.

Meet your guide at the airstrip and continue to camp, with the transfer offering an introduction to the northern landscape. After check-in and a briefing, an afternoon game drive is possible when arrival times allow. Keep the first outing flexible rather than trying to reach every viewpoint immediately.

The next days are shaped by actual wildlife movements. When migration herds are in the region, your guide assesses their position and river conditions; at other times, the focus is the resident wildlife and changing scenery. Neither the presence of herds nor a river crossing can be guaranteed.

Day 7

Northern Serengeti

A full day in the north

Begin with a morning drive and let recent observations guide the route. If herds are nearby, watch their movements patiently without assuming that gathering beside a river means they will cross. At other times, explore for resident animals across the grassland, woodland edges and kopjes.

Agree lunch arrangements with camp according to how far you travel. The afternoon can continue the morning’s theme or explore a different habitat before returning for dinner. Responsible viewing means leaving animals space and accepting that the most rewarding encounter may be something entirely different from the day’s original plan.

Day 8

Northern Serengeti

Keep time on your side

Use another full morning to follow your interests rather than repeat a rigid circuit. Wildlife watching often improves when there is time to stay with a scene, observe interactions and wait for better light. Your guide will help balance this patience with opportunities elsewhere in the area.

After a rest, head out for a last drive or enjoy part of the afternoon in camp. A balloon safari, if available for your dates, is an optional advance booking rather than a standard inclusion. Check tomorrow’s flight time in the evening and keep travel essentials separate from your checked safari bag.

Day 9

Northern Tanzania departure connection

Your onward journey

Transfer to the airstrip for your confirmed onward flight from the Serengeti. The arrival airport and connection to your international departure are specified in the final travel plan.

Enjoy breakfast and a final look at the setting before your collection, subject to the departure time. A last wildlife activity is only possible when the transfer schedule genuinely leaves enough room; it is not automatically included on a flying day. Keep passports, medication and valuables in your hand luggage.

Before confirming international flights, let us check the complete connection, including any airport change, baggage collection and immigration requirements. If the timings are too tight, an additional overnight stop should be arranged rather than relying on a rushed transfer. No accommodation is scheduled for tonight in this itinerary.
