Direct answer: Children are not automatically covered by an adult’s approval. Kenya requires an individual eTA for each non-exempt infant and child. Tanzania instructs every passport holder, including minors, to have a separate visa application where a visa is required. South Africa can request additional parental or consent documents in defined child-travel situations.

Start with each child’s passport

Check expiry dates, blank pages and the exact name used on flights. A child’s passport may expire sooner than the parents’ documents, and many countries apply the same six-month threshold. Renew before applying because electronic permissions are linked to the passport number.

Create individual electronic records

Kenya allows group initiation but still issues an authorisation per passenger. Tanzania’s guideline also requires separate applications for minors. Use distinct email tracking where the portal requires it and label each approval clearly to avoid presenting the wrong document at check-in.

Carry relationship and consent evidence

Birth records, parental-consent letters, custody orders or death certificates may be relevant when a child travels with one parent, a guardian or a group. South Africa publishes detailed child-travel guidance, and airlines can ask for documents even when the destination’s visa system did not request them online.

Health records apply to children too

Yellow-fever requirements include age and medical considerations. Do not assume an infant exemption will be interpreted automatically; carry the appropriate vaccination record or medical exemption. Zanzibar’s inbound insurance portal also has separate pricing treatment for infants and children.

Build a family document folder

Keep a paper set with one adult and an encrypted offline set with another. Include passports, approvals, birth and consent records, insurance, health certificates, accommodation confirmations and emergency contacts. Remove unnecessary copies after the trip to reduce identity risk.
