You start with an early pickup from your Zanzibar hotel, fly to Selous (now Nyerere National Park), and head straight into a full day of game viewing with a professional guide. At sunset, you swap the vehicle for a boat safari—one of the most relaxing and photogenic ways to see hippos, crocodiles and riverine birds.
The timing is designed to feel seamless: your flights are arranged around safari hours so you spend more time in the park and less time waiting. After a comfortable overnight at Africa Safari Selous, you can add an optional walking safari for a closer look at tracks, plants and the smaller details that make the ecosystem come alive. You then enjoy a sunrise game drive and return to Zanzibar the same day.

Day 1: Zanzibar Hotel Pickup → Fly to Selous (Nyerere) → Full-Day Game Drive + Sunset Boat Safari
Your day begins early with a private pickup from your Zanzibar hotel and a smooth transfer to Zanzibar Airport. You check in for the morning flight (typically 07:50), then take off toward the southern wilderness. The flight is short and scenic, and you usually arrive around 09:15, landing close to the safari area so your wildlife time starts quickly.
On arrival, your safari guide meets you and you depart for a full-day game drive inside the Selous / Nyerere ecosystem. This region is known for its wide-open spaces, rugged river systems and a “wilder” feel compared to northern circuit parks. You spend the day searching for elephants, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and antelope, with strong chances for predators depending on season and movements. Your guide reads tracks and recent sightings to position you in the most productive areas, and breaks are timed for comfort and photography.
As the afternoon light softens, you change pace with a sunset boat safari. From the water, you get a different perspective—hippos surfacing in calm channels, crocodiles resting on banks, and birdlife active in golden light. It’s a peaceful finish to an action-packed day and often a highlight for travelers who love nature, landscapes and slower moments.
After the boat ride, you transfer to your lodge for dinner and overnight, with time to unwind and share the day’s best sightings.

Day 2: Optional Walking Safari → Sunrise Game Drive → Fly Back to Zanzibar + Hotel Drop-off
You start the morning early to catch the park at its most active. If you wish, you can add an optional walking safari (subject to park rules and guide availability) for a close-up look at tracks, insects, bird calls and the smaller details that the vehicle safari naturally moves past. It’s a great complement to game drives and adds a deeper understanding of the bush.
After an early breakfast, you depart for a half-day sunrise game drive. Morning hours bring cooler temperatures and movement—elephants traveling between feeding areas, predators shifting position, and birds becoming active along water lines. Your guide focuses on productive routes based on what you saw the day before, giving you a strong final push for sightings before departure.
Later, you transfer to the airstrip for your flight back to Zanzibar (typical departure around 12:50, arriving about 14:50). On arrival, our Zanzibar team meets you and provides a private transfer back to your hotel so you can continue your beach stay with safari memories still fresh.
