3 Days Serengeti & Ngorongoro Private Safari

Discover two of Africa’s most celebrated wildlife regions on an immersive, privately guided journey designed for comfort, pace, and extraordinary sightings. Across three well-planned days, you’ll traverse the legendary Serengeti National Park—a realm of endless golden plains, granite kopjes, and big cats—before descending into the dramatic Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that concentrates an astonishing density of wildlife within ancient volcanic walls.

This thoughtfully curated midrange safari balances driving time and game viewing to maximize your hours in the bush. You’ll travel in a private, well-maintained 4×4 with a pop-up roof for panoramic viewing and photography, accompanied by a professional, English-speaking guide who tailors the day to seasonal movements, current sightings, and your personal interests. Accommodations are carefully selected tented camps and lodges that deliver warm hospitality, great food, and restful nights—so you wake ready to chase dawn light and fresh tracks each morning.

Whether you’re seeking the pulse of the Great Migration (roughly December–July in the central/Seronera corridor, shifting by month) or the resident predator action that defines August–November, this itinerary is built for year-round excitement. Expect elephants browsing acacia stands, hippos wallowing in pools, cheetahs scanning the short grass, hyenas patrolling at dusk, and—if luck smiles—rhino encounters on the crater floor. Private guiding means no rigid schedules: stop longer with a leopard in a sausage tree, circle back for a second look at a pride on a kopje, and linger for the last honeyed light as the savannah quiets.

Tortilis Camp Serengeti National Park

Day 1: Arusha to Central Serengeti National Park

Your private safari begins with a morning pickup from your Arusha town hotel or Arusha Airport. After a detailed briefing—covering safety, expected sightings, and the day’s route—we drive toward the Serengeti via the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, climbing through montane forest and highland farms before the land unfurls into classic savannah.

We enter the park at Naabi Hill Gate, stretch our legs, and enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the plains. The afternoon is devoted to unhurried game drives in the Central (Seronera) region, renowned for year-round wildlife thanks to permanent water sources. Keep your eyes peeled for lions lounging on kopjes, leopards draped in sausage trees, elephant herds crossing drainage lines, and mixed plains game—zebra, wildebeest, topi, and gazelle—painting the horizon.

As the light softens and the air cools, we roll into your chosen midrange camp—Serengeti Tortilis Camp, Serengeti Signature Luxury Tented Camp, or a similar standard—arriving in time for a hot shower and a hearty dinner. Fall asleep to the distant whoops of hyenas and the flutter of canvas in the night breeze: the soundtrack of the wild.

Day 2: Full Day Serengeti Safari → Transfer to Ngorongoro

Wake before sunrise for coffee and a golden hour game drive when predators are active and the plains glow. Your guide will adapt the route to fresh spoor and radio reports: track cheetah on open short grass, drift quietly past hippo pools, and pause with giraffe silhouettes stepping through acacia woodland. Birders will love lilac-breasted rollers, kori bustards, secretary birds, and raptors riding thermals.

We break for a picnic lunch at a scenic viewpoint, then continue exploring through early afternoon, balancing patient stakeouts with exploratory loops to new habitats. In late afternoon, exit the park and journey into the highlands of Ngorongoro. Cooler air, forested slopes, and sweeping crater-rim vistas signal a change of scene. Overnight at your selected lodge or tented camp—Ngorongoro Tortilis Camp, Ang’ata Camp, or similar—arriving in time for sunset over the caldera and a cozy dinner.

Optional (advance booking recommended): sunrise hot-air balloon over the Serengeti (additional $590 per person), concluding with a champagne bush breakfast—an unforgettable way to see the plains from above.

Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive → Return to Arusha

At dawn, we descend 600 meters onto the crater floor, entering a natural amphitheater hosting around 25,000 large mammals in a compact area. The mosaic of grassland, marsh, and fever-tree groves draws elephants with sweeping tusks, abundant buffalo, lounging lions, and one of East Africa’s best chances to see endangered black rhino.

We’ll enjoy breakfast at the Ngoitokitok picnic site beside a hippo-filled pool, then continue slow, deliberate circuits to maximize sightings and photographic angles. Expect hyenas quartering the plains, flocks of crowned cranes, and perhaps a lion coalition patrolling territories along the road verges.

After a final lap and unhurried ascent of the rim, we set course for Arusha (about 4 hours), arriving by late afternoon for drop-off at your hotel or airport. With memory cards full and hearts fuller, your Serengeti & Ngorongoro adventure draws to a close—until next time.
