Tanzania safari & Rwanda gorilla trekking · 11 days / 10 nights
11 Day Tanzania Safari & Rwanda Gorilla Trek
A serious East African private journey: Nairobi’s Giraffe Manor, the Ngorongoro Crater, four unhurried nights at Four Seasons Serengeti, then mountain gorillas in Rwanda’s Virunga foothills. Every flight, road transfer, permit and named stay is planned as one seamless route.
This route does not rush through Tanzania to reach Rwanda. You begin properly, with a considered Nairobi arrival, two nights above the crater and four nights in the central Serengeti—enough time for the game drives to become the main event.
Only then does the journey move east through Arusha and on to Rwanda, where two nights at Sambora Kinigi Lodge frame a permit-secured mountain gorilla trek and a deeper introduction to the country’s conservation story.
The pace is deliberate: time to land, time to watch the Serengeti properly, and time to meet mountain gorillas under the care of Rwanda’s expert trackers. Private does not mean hurried. It means the route answers to you.
Day 101
Nairobi · Kenya
Arrive in Nairobi, begin properly
Arrive in Nairobi and meet your private airport representative for the transfer to Giraffe Manor. Settle into one of East Africa’s most recognisable stays, with its calm garden setting and famously close giraffe encounters, before dinner and a full night of rest.

Day 202
Nairobi · Lake Manyara · Ngorongoro
Fly south to the Ngorongoro highlands
After breakfast, transfer to Nairobi Wilson Airport for your scheduled flight to Lake Manyara Airstrip. Your private Tanzania guide meets you on arrival and drives you into the Ngorongoro highlands, where Meliá Ngorongoro Lodge is ready for an unhurried lunch, time to settle in and dinner overlooking the crater country.

Day 303
Ngorongoro Conservation Area
A full day inside the crater
Descend early with your private guide for a full day on the Ngorongoro Crater floor. The route moves between grassland, forest, marsh and lake edge, with a picnic lunch placed around the day’s best wildlife opportunities. Return to Meliá Ngorongoro Lodge in the afternoon for time to reset before dinner.
Leave the crater highlands after breakfast and drive privately into the central Serengeti. The journey itself is game viewing: your guide reads the conditions, pauses where the wildlife warrants it and brings you into Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti in time to settle into your Horizon Waterhole View accommodation before dinner.
Three full privately guided days in the central Serengeti give this safari its depth. Follow big cats at first light, watch the plains change through the day and choose between full-day drives with a picnic or a gentler split-day rhythm around the lodge. There is room to return to a sighting, take a long photographic pause or simply stay out because the wildlife is extraordinary.
An optional early-morning hot-air balloon safari can be added in the central Serengeti, followed by a champagne-style bush breakfast, subject to weather and operating conditions.
After a final Serengeti morning and breakfast, drive to Seronera Airstrip for the afternoon flight to Arusha. A private transfer takes you to Arusha Coffee Lodge, a quiet, polished overnight where you can rest, dine and prepare for Rwanda without turning a travel day into a rush.

Day 909
Arusha · Kigali · Volcanoes National Park
From Tanzania to Rwanda’s Virunga foothills
Fly from Arusha to Kigali, where your Rwanda representative welcomes you for the private scenic drive north to Volcanoes National Park. Pass Rwanda’s rolling hills, rural communities and rich green countryside before arriving at Sambora Kinigi Lodge. The remainder of the day is intentionally quiet: settle in, enjoy dinner and receive the practical briefing for tomorrow’s gorilla trek.

Day 1010
Volcanoes National Park · Kinigi
Mountain gorillas, conservation and culture
After an early breakfast, travel to Volcanoes National Park headquarters in Kinigi for the official gorilla trekking briefing. Park rangers explain the guidelines, safety procedures and responsible viewing practices before assigning your gorilla family and trailhead. Accompanied by guides and trackers, trek through the forested slopes of the Virunga Mountains to spend the permitted one hour observing a habituated family in its natural habitat.
After the trek, continue with the Dian Fossey conservation interpretation experience and a Gorilla Guardians cultural visit, offering a more complete picture of the communities and conservation work that protect this landscape. Return to the lodge for dinner and a well-earned relaxed evening.

Day 1111
Volcanoes National Park · Kigali
Kigali city perspective, then departure
After breakfast, check out and drive privately to Kigali. Subject to your onward flight time, take a guided city tour and visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial—a meaningful, reflective experience that requires proper time and care. Continue to Kigali International Airport for your departure; if the flight is early, the city visit is shortened or omitted so the airport arrival remains smooth.
