The Camp

Where the Serengeti opens for big cats

Namiri Plains occupies the eastern Serengeti where the grasslands stretch to the horizon — a landscape designed by nature for tracking movement, reading animal behaviour, and capturing clean, uninterrupted wildlife sightings. This is the Serengeti that photographers dream about.

The camp was established after over a decade of being closed to tourism — a deliberate conservation measure that allowed cheetah populations to recover and lion prides to establish territory undisturbed. The result is extraordinary density of predator activity that no other Serengeti camp can match.

As your Tanzania DMC, we don't simply sell a bed at Namiri. We build the journey around it — choosing the right season for your wildlife goals, pairing the right camps, arranging fly-in logistics, and ensuring every day in the field is purposeful and well-timed.

Cheetah sighting in the eastern Serengeti near Namiri Plains camp
Year-Round · Daily Drives

Cheetah & Predator Tracking

The eastern Serengeti holds the highest concentration of cheetahs in all of Tanzania. With open sightlines and resident coalition males, morning drives consistently deliver extraordinary encounters — hunting behaviour, cub sightings, and territorial interactions that most guests only see on documentary film.

Lion prides have established deep territory here as well. Leopards use the drainage lines and kopjes on the perimeter. Your guide's knowledge of individual animals — their ranges, habits, and daily rhythms — makes the difference between a sighting and a story you tell for life.

Photography safari and Great Migration at Namiri Plains Serengeti
Peak Season · Photography

Migration Encounters & Photography Safari

Between July and September, the Great Migration sweeps the eastern Serengeti — wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle moving across the grasslands in front of camp. The combination of migrating prey and resident predators creates the most dramatic wildlife theatre in Africa, all from a setting with almost no other vehicles.

For photographers specifically, Namiri is unmatched: open plains, natural low light in the mornings, and guides who understand how to position a vehicle for composition. We plan drives around golden hour, advise on equipment, and build your days with photography in mind, not just species ticking.
